EDGE OF DARKNESS
Online Release | September 22
Public Release | Hungry Eye Fair September 17-21 Amsterdam North, Netherlands
These animals stand on the edge - of survival, of visibility, of memory.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
This series explores the tension between light and dark — not just visually, but thematically. Each image is a portrait of an animal on the edge: of visibility, of survival, of cultural relevance. Framed through the lens of conservation, this body of work asks what remains, what we risk losing, and what hope still flickers in the shadow.
Collection Release: 8 initial images.
Edition Size: Each image is a single edition of 15 prints + 3 artist’s proofs.
The edition number is shared across all sizes — meaning that whether a collector purchases a smaller or larger format, it counts toward the same total of 15 + 3 APs.

CONSERVATION STORY
This series was born out of more than a decade working alongside conservationists in the field — from jaguar researchers in the Pantanal to elephant rangers in southern Kenya. The animals depicted here are not just subjects of admiration; they are symbols of cultural change, ecological strain, and, in some cases, hope. Whether it's a cheetah born to a rewilded mother or an elephant whose tusks mark him as a living monument, these portraits are visual testaments to the evolving relationship between humans and the wild.

The greatest challenge in making this series was holding everything I’ve seen — the hope, the heartbreak, the resilience — and finding a way to translate it.
I’ve spent years photographing wildlife and walking alongside conservationists. I’ve heard stories of success and devastating loss. I’ve felt overwhelmed. But I’ve also seen the light — in people, in places, in the way it falls across an animal's face. This series is built from that tension. Some images are new. Others are old, reimagined. Together, they tell a story that’s still unfolding — uncertain, urgent, but not without hope.
CONSERVATION IMPACT
10% of all proceeds from the sale of this series will directly benefit IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), of which Donal is a proud ambassador.
